Welcome to the Wells Family Blog! We want to continue to share with you the amazing journey that God has called us to as we try to live ON PURPOSE and ON MISSION in a world that says to do otherwise.

If it seems that the blog is changing and "under construction" at times then it is just a reflection of our family life... We are working hard to find our "new normal", so please hang in there and keep checking back!

"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:10

Walking the Village of Pertrivske

I have an amazing husband!  After 21 years of marriage he truly  understands that if I don't get in some semblance of a "workout" than I am not as much fun to be around.  So in an effort to keep his wife happy he has headed out everyday to walk a pre-determined distance at a less than comfortable pace.

Walking up and down the streets of Pertrivske is a very different experience than we get back at home.  Not only are the 30 degree temps a vast departure from our norm but so are the sights and sounds that we experience.

Pertrivske certainly at times seems like a forgotten place.  Up and down the streets that we walk are many homes that appear to have been deserted, but in actuality they are not.  And every home seems to be "walled" in with an intent to make them private and secluded, except for the fact that many fences (walls) are in great disrepair.

To go from the manicured and maintained properties that are the norm in Florida to the disheveled and forgotten properties that make up the majority in this village is a bit of a shock.

It's hard to put my finger on it... but there seems to be a struggle here between a simpler lifestyle, trying to make it in a complex world.

A working well.

Much of the architecture seems to reflect the Soviet era where everything was more utilitarian in nature.

On another note some thing that we see a lot of are dogs... stray dogs are a very common problem here in Ukraine.  And Pertrivske is no exception.  Dogs of all varieties roam the streets.  Being the dog lover that I am I would like to make friends with each one but I have been warned that it is not a good idea as many are very weary of people and not very trustworthy.

With probably another month left of our daily walks in the village of Pertrivske I am certain that we will make many more discoveries.  It is my hope that perhaps we will see something else beyond a forgotten and seemingly lonely place.
